Yesterday the Hyndburn’s Woodlands Project hosted our first ‘Solitary Bee Hotel’ making course, held at Bank Mill House Senior Centre!
Attendees were given pre-cut kits, which they then drilled 2/3 inch holes in at diameters of either 8mm or 10mm. For this, we utilised palm drills or electric drills. After drilling, a base and a roof were fastened to the hive.
Solitary bees make up over 90% of all bee species in the UK, they are extremely important pollinators and are often overlooked compared to their colony making cousins! These hotels will provide some lovely living space for these important bees in attendees gardens!
