On Sunday 3rd March the Hyndburn’s Woodland’s Volunteers teamed up with treeACTION Officer, Helen Earnshaw, to plant a Hawthorn hedgerow in the alleyway running between the Accrington Cricket Club and the new housing estate adjacent to Whinney Hill!

The new hedgerow, once grown in, will provide a natural barrier between the sites with the added bonus of providing forage and shelter for wildlife in the area.

In the following weeks, the Hyndburn’s Woodland’s Volunteers headed back to the site to conduct a tidy-up which involved using hand tools to cut back the surrounding vegetation to allow more light into the hedgerow and promote its growth.

Thank you to everyone who helped us carry out this work, we hope you enjoyed the day and with time can see the fruits of your labour!
